THE DREAM

Terius Youngdell Nash, also know as "The Dream", was born in Rockingham, North Carolina. At the age of two he moved, with his mother Reva Nash, to Atlanta, Georgia, where she raised him until her untimely death at the age of thirty-five. Afterwards, he was taken in by his grandfather, who was an avid music fan. It was through this relationship that he was introduced to many of the great legendary artists that made up his grandfather's record collection.

As soon as he heard the sweet soulful sounds of Sam Cooke and Al Green, "The Dream" was hooked. In the third grade he enrolled in beginning trumpet classes at Grove Park Elementary School. He continued playing the trumpet through high school and later added to his musical repertoire by learning to play the drums and guitar.

In junior high and high school his musical influences broadened to include artists such as Timberland, Missy, Aaliyah and TuPac Shakur. His talents continued to develop naturally and eventually lead to singing, rapping and song writing.

In addition, he is also an accomplished artist and has created many paintings and sculptures, some of which have been shown at various art galleries throughout Atlanta. "The Dream" was introduced to Laney Stewart at Redzone Entertainment in 2001, and although their first meeting wasn't very successful, things fared better the second time around and Laney pulled him into his camp, where they immediately started to write together for the multi-platinum group B2K. In early 2003 he was signed by Laney Stewart to a new publishing deal with Morningside Trail through a joint venture with peermusic. Since then he has continued writing for other artists and his most recent collaborations include Britney Spears newest single, "Me Against The Music". Terius just wrapped work on Jive artist Nivea's forthcoming sophomore effort (April 2005) including the hit single "Okay" featuring Lil' John and Youngbloodz.

IN 2006, Dream was brought in by Tricky Stewart, of Redzone, to write with several artists the company was working with such as, Atlantic artist, Bayje, Capitol artists Dear Jane and J. Holiday and Interscope artists Brit and Alex. All of such are due to release in 2007. To kick off the new year, Dream started 2007 with a bang. With the help of Tricky, "Umbrella" was created and was shopped to several labels for several artists. From Britney Spears at Jive, to Mary J and Akon, but it was Karen Kwak of Universal Music that got the record into the hands of LA Reid and the rest is history. Dream knew right off that Rihanna would be the best artist out of all those incontention for the record. Island Def Jam flew Dream and Tricky to LA to record with Rihanna and also while there they wrote "Breakin Dishes".

[edit] Solo

Following the deal with Def Jam Records, The-Dream began working on his debut studio album Love Hate.[4] The album was produced by The-Dream's production partner Tricky Stewart, and Carlos "LOS Da Maestro" McKinney, and featured Fabolous and Rihanna.[5] The album was written and recorded in eight days with twelve tracks making the final cut. Some of the tracks were written in regards to The-Dream's personal life, most notably "Nikki," written about his ex-wife Nivea and how he has moved on since their divorce.[6] The-Dream explained the title, Love Hate, as short for, "Love me all summer, hate me all winter, because they love you when you hot and when you're cold they don't... I'm hot right now and they love me, but I was cold and they wasn't fuckin' with me."[6] Released December 11, 2007 on The-Dream's Def Jam-imprint Radio Killa Records,[7] Love Hate moved 59,000 copies and debuted at number 30 on the Billboard 200.[8] Love Hate also peaked at #5 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.[9] The album received generally positive reviews from critics, as Rolling Stone called it "one of the most likable R&B records of the year" and UrbanMusicReviews.com said that the singer has "hit a home run."[10]

On March 10, 2009 The-Dream released his second album Love vs. Money.[11] He re-teamed with his production partner Christopher "Tricky" Stewart, who produced most of the tracks on the album, and Los Da Maestro.[12] He also enlisted the help of Lil Jon for the song "Let Me See the Booty".[8] Love vs. Money debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, selling 151,000 copies in its first week.[13] It also entered at number one on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and at number three on its Top Digital Albums chart in March 2009.[14][15] Upon its release, the album received general acclaim from most music critics, based on an aggregate score of 83/100 from Metacritic.[16]

Initially, The-Dream told Billboard that he would release his third album Love King, in December 2009;[17] however, in September 2009, Christopher Stewart told Rap-Up that the album will be released in 2010 instead.[18] According to The-Dream, he collaborated with T-Pain for at least one track and also expressed that he would like to make a collaboration album with Kanye West in the future.[19] In January 2010, The-Dream officially stated he was finished recording the album and he called it the best of his three albums.[20] The first single, "Love King", was released on March 16, 2010 for digital download. The-Dream said that he would release four singles and four music videos prior to the album's release.[21] The album was released on June 29, 2010.[22]

In July 2009, The-Dream announced that Love King will be his last solo album; however, with the release of the song Sex Intelligent Remix, The-Dream stated that on "6-07-2011 he will drop that Love Affair". But The-Dream decided to move on from the "Love Affair" album saying he put too much time into it, and that he decided to move on with the next album; "The Love; IV (Diary of A Madman)".[8][23]

In 2011, The-Dream released double promotional single(s) titled "Body Work" and "Fuck My Brains Out" to the internet.

Due to label difficulties, The-Dream was not able to deliver "Love Affair" on 06/07/2011, however, in August 2011, he stated that his new album, The Love; IV (Diary of A Madman) will be released in the 4th quarter of 2011. In the meantime, he will release a free 10-track album to the internet, it was released on August 31, 2011.[24][25] The-Dream will also release a 13-track studio album entitled Nikki: The Chronicles, which will follow his infatuation with the woman he sang about on 2007’s Lovehate and 2010’s Love King.[26]
